The family of Gregory Wayne Smith are saddened to announce his passing on May 15, 2024.

Greg was born April 6, 1947 in Saskatoon, SK to Vernon and Joyce Smith and spent his childhood and school years in Davidson, SK. After high school, he obtained his education degree from the University of Saskatchewan and began his teaching career in Yorkton, SK at the early age of nineteen. Greg taught for ten years in Yorkton before coming to Swift Current where he taught at James O. Begg, Dickson, Fairview, Ashley Park and Central Schools, retiring after thirty years in 1997.

Greg loved sports and officiated for 25 years, covering everything from softball, football, baseball, volleyball, and track and field. Greg enjoyed the game of hockey and even though he didn’t play the sport, he dedicated 25 years to the Swift Current Broncos initially calling the game, as well as leadership with the stats crew - responsible for recruiting, scheduling, and training staff and other various game day duties.

Greg’s other love was fishing. He enjoyed various fishing trips and spending time with his fishing buddies at his favourite fishing spot - the Duncairn Reservoir. He also enjoyed regular Friday happy hour visiting and catching up with friends.

He will be missed and his family will remember him for his dedication to keeping the family roots and history alive. Intentionally keeping in touch with friends and family and brightening our days with his sense of humour, kindness, and unconditional love.

Greg was predeceased by his father Vernon (Snook), and his mother Joyce (Kent). He is survived by his loving wife Nadia, brother Rick (Betty) of Warman, and three nieces - Jaclyn (Brian) Heinrichs (Emma and Claire), Kate (Eldon) Chillog (Piper and Roan), and Cari (Chris) Schappert (Cami).
