Highway 4 south of Swift Current is now open following a fatal car crash this morning.

The highway was closed by emergency services at approximately 8 a.m. before reopening to the public at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

The two-car motor vehicle collision occurred roughly 5 kilometres south of the City of Swift Current.

One motorist, who was stopped at the scene around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, described the road conditions as "slick" at the time of the crash.

Another motorist, driving along Highway 4, witnessed the crash and said he saw the north-bound truck cross over the centre line into south-bound traffic before being struck by the south-bound truck.

Both trucks caught on fire upon impact. One of them was severed in half.

The RCMP are continuing their investigating into the cause of the crash.

Swift Current Online will continue to update the story as more details become available.
