Southwest country singers the Hunter Brothers won big at the Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards Saturday. The band won two awards; Emerging Artist of the Year and Group of the Year.

JJ Hunter says that the past year for the band through their emergence has been a learning curve.

"It has been a whirlwind in many ways, and there's so much to learn, so many aspects of country music and radio, and learning the industry and meeting people, getting to know different bands," he said. "We've had so many people that have encouraged us, and we just really appreciate it."

"It's humbling to be here, we've never been at the SCMA awards before, so to be here amongst all the other incredible talent is humbling and a huge honour," Ty Hunter said.

Ty adds that 2017 has been a whirlwind of touring across the province.

"We've actually had quite a few stops over the last couple days, we've had two different television appearances, then up to Prince Albert, up to North Battleford, we were all over the place in Saskatoon then over to Swift Current," he said. "It's been crazy, but it's been a lot of fun."

The Hunter Brothers' latest CD, Getaway, came out on March 17.
