John Douglas McKenzie Jr. was born in Swift Current, Sk. on January 22, 1947, to Doug and Louise McKenzie. He passed away on February 5, 2024, in Bullhead City, Arizona.

John spent his whole life in Swift Current except for when he attended Mount Royal College in Calgary. He returned to Swift Current and went into the family business with his father at Ed McKenzie’s Men’s Wear until 1978. He then worked at Swift Current Bottlers (Coca-Cola) until 1990, Schwan’s Canada Ltd until 1999, and Standard Motors Ltd. until retirement in 2005. John was obsessed with clothing, Coca-Cola, food, and cars which made all of his places of employment a perfect fit for him.

John married Jo Ann Turner in 1969. John was definitely a family man; he and Jo Ann were devoted to raising their three children. When he wasn’t at work he spent his time with his family at gyms, rinks, soccer fields, pools, and golf courses. His dedication to family continued as his family grew and he attended as many of his grandchildren’s activities as possible. Upon retirement John and Jo Ann could always be found on the golf course. They became snowbirds and continued their passion for a daily round of golf in California and Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Jo Ann, his sons Jared and Regan (Stephanie), his son in law Warren Miller, his sister Kathi (Wayne) Sandbeck, sisters-in-laws Janay (Jim) Rittinger and Mona McKenzie; grandchildren Mackenzie Miller (Carter Mackow) and Madison Miller, Jaden (Spencer) Linsley, Hailey McKenzie, Caleb, Jorryn, and Talia McKenzie. He was predeceased by his daughter Andrea Miller and his brother Ken. John undoubtably left his mark as a kind, compassionate, and caring man. He provided so many laughs and memories to everyone he encountered.

There will be a Celebration of Life for John on April 20, 2024, at Great Plains College from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Please come and celebrate a truly amazing husband, father, and papa.
