Jun 2, 1936 - Jan 28, 2024

Lawrence “Larry” Birstein passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the Gull Lake Special Care Home at the age of 87 years.

Larry was born June 2, 1936, to Abraham and Edith Birstein. After graduating from Central Collegiate in Regina, he attended the University of Saskatchewan and received his BSP degree in Pharmacy in 1960. He managed several drug stores over the years in Regina and Swift Current.

In 1999, Larry retired and moved to Simpson, Saskatchewan, to be close to his favourite childhood vacation site, Manitou Beach. There he enjoyed making new friends, having them over for meals, going to garage sales, riding his motorcycle, and of course spending time with his dogs Teddy and Patches.

Following his years in Simpson, Larry returned to Regina, where he continued spending time with friends and his cherished pets. He moved to the Swift Current area, and eventually settled into the Gull Lake Special Care Home. He enjoyed everything at the care home, taking part in all of the activities, spending time with other residents and staff. His favourite place to be was in the Care Home’s courtyard, spending time in the sun and enjoying the beautiful grounds.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Abraham and Edith Birstein; sisters Molly Hillyard and Pearl Shuster; and brother Jerold Birstein. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kim (Wilbur) Dueck, Gord (Sandy McMillan) Birstein, and Barb (Todd) Klaassen, as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Clare Kozroski, Dr. Janna Cuthbert and all of the amazing, caring and supportive staff at the Gull Lake Special Care Center. Dad was so happy being with you each and every day. He always told us there was nothing he needed, that the home you prepared for him was “just perfect - there is nothing else I could ever ask for.”

A Private Graveside Service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Home, 751 Grey Street, Gull Lake, SK S0N 1A0 or charity of the donor’s choice. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com.
