Leader Tourism is inviting residents and visitors to explore some of southwest Saskatchewan’s best-known attractions during a guided bus tour later this month.

The full-day tour is scheduled for Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include stops at the Great Sandhills, the Great Sandhills Museum, the historic Blumenfeld Church, Estuary Hutterite Colony and Sagebrush Studios.

Organizers say more registrations are needed for the tour to proceed.

Tour returns after successful previous outings

Leader Tourism chair Christine Broderick said it has been several years since the organization last offered the tour, but previous outings were well received.

“We’ve done it before with great success,” Broderick said.

Participants will be able to tour the interior of the historic Blumenfeld Church, which Broderick said often surprises visitors.

The group will also visit Estuary Hutterite Colony and Sagebrush Studios, where artists Dean Francis and Fran Francis create and display their work.

Broderick said she has taken part in the tour several times and continues to enjoy the experience.

“I’ve done the bus tour multiple times, and I have fun every year that I do it,” she said.

Local guide to share history

Kerry Rishko will serve as the tour guide.

Broderick said Rishko is a local conservation officer who is familiar with the area’s history and has led the tour several times.

“He’s very knowledgeable, and he knows the history,” she said. “He’s always got a few good jokes to tell on the bus too.”

The tour will allow participants to relax aboard a minibus while learning about the region’s landscape, history, culture and art.

Registration available through Town Office

The cost is $115 per person and includes lunch and all admission and entry fees.
