Dorie's House received a large donation from a local company yesterday.

Speedy Creek Home & Yard Maintenance made a $10,000 donation to the Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter for their first anniversary.

This donation comes after the company had completed the renovation work on the backyard, installing the new, seamless white fencings and laying in the luscious green grass that now makes up the majority of the space.

Receiving the donation was Dorie's House Executive Director, Rebecca Donnelly. She hosted the backyard event that saw guests and representatives from all across Swift Current.

"We are lucky to have so much support from the community," said Donnelly. "If you look at this beautiful yard, Speedy Creek Maintenance came in here and they did an incredible job. The donation back, speaks to the amazing community that we have and the support that we've been able to get."

Among the gentlemen presenting the donation for Speedy Creek Home & Yard Maintenance, was Ryan Stensrud.

"Dorie's House is an important part of the community and important to us," said Stensrud. "We believe that contributing to a cause like this will benefit our community."

He spoke about how, for him, working on the expanded backyard for Dorie's House was meaningful.

"Dorie was my mother-in-law, so she would be proud to see all this stuff that's been done in this group home," said Stensrud. It's what she would have wanted."

The folks at Dorie's house will use the money to help fund their operations, which centre around helping youth in the community who need support and a safe place at times. The backyard they now possess goes a long way toward providing a safe place for youth to be outdoors, while;e still having the structure and support that Dorie's house provides.
