The Lyric Theatre is postponing all events at the theatre for the foreseeable future due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Gordon McCall, the executive director of the theatre, made the announcement via a press release on Saturday, adding that production operations would remain suspended until they are advised by health authorities that the COVID-19 danger has receded enough to ensure the safety of all people participating in and frequenting the theatre.

The world premiere of Wendy Lockman's new play was scheduled to open on Thursday, March 19, 2020. Titled 'Burn Rubber, Dolly', it will now premiere in October of this year and become the first production of the 2020/2021 Sparks in the Dark theatre series.

The theatre added that any tickets already purchased for the play can be redeemed for any other Sparks in the Dark play in the 2020/2021 season when the Lyric Theatre box office reopens.

Its other popular events, such as Open Stage and Write Our Loud have also been suspended. This includes Youth Talent Night, Improv Theatre and Listen To Dis theatre company.

As well as theatre, the Lyric's music programming is also being placed on hold.

Terry Bachtis, the executive director of the Blenders music series, announced that the popular concert series will be put on hold for the time being. This means that  Ryan McMahon show scheduled for April 4, 2020, has been cancelled.

Ticket holders will be able to redeem their tickets to a regular Blenders show of choice during the 2020/2021 season.
