The town of Maple Creek, along with the RM of Maple Creek, is looking for an Emergency Management Organization (EMO) coordinator.

Maple Creek Mayor Barry Rudd was around when the town had severe flooding in 2010, and he recognizes the importance in having someone who can lead the charge in a similar circumstance.

Rudd said it's best to use someone who isn't an elected official, as they would have other duties if there is a natural disaster. What they would want is someone with related experience.

"Mostly somebody that's dedicated, but somebody with experience running an emergency crew," he said. "Whether it be somebody who's been on a volunteer fire department for a long time and they've moved here and retired. There's a lot of people that are around that have been in the forces or have been in the Peace Corps or something like that... We're going to put the call out again."

Rudd said it can take some time for a coordinator to review plans.

"We are willing to pay for that, and the RM has partnered with us on that position too now. We'll see what we can get, and we might have to pay a little bit more, just to make it so there is some remuneration there."

Rudd said the town is looking at paying a potential EMO coordinator $500 a month, and that could be matched by the RM.

"There should be someone in place because it's a very important part of any community, region or municipality."
