The community of Maple Creek and the local RM have been working on building a new fire hall.

The Town has recently received nearly $300,000 for the fire hall through the latest round of Municipal Economic Enhancement funding from the Saskatchewan government.

The Municipal Economic Enhancement Program is providing 150 million dollars to municipalities in the province to support investment in infrastructure to stimulate the economic recovery and encourage local job creation.

Michael Morrow is a Maple Creek Town Councillor and Chair of the Maple Creek Community Fire Department. He said, "Back in January this year we re-tendered our fire hall, and we broke ground in May to build it. The main reason that we're building it is , as of right now, our equipment is housed in four different locations, and it's right on Main Street as well, so it wasn't conducive to quickness to get to an incident."

Both the Town and the RM received MEEP grants for the fire hall.

The new fire hall is expected to be completed by the end of October. Total cost will be approximately 1.2 million dollars.

Other communities recently receiving MEEP funds are the Town of Leader which received $124,000 for a waterline replacement, and the community of Piapot which will receive over $43,000 in local bridge repair.
