Weather has caused more power problems in the southwest.

Ice and frost have caused intermittent power outages over the past few days, and power was out for over six hours in Shaunavon and area on Monday.

Mike Marsh, Vice President of Transmission and Distribution with SaskPower, says heavy ice build-up actually caused the shield wire on top of the transmission line to break in two locations.  He says, typically the shield wire sags down into the conductor carrying the electricity and causes a short circuit, but this time the wire broke.

Marsh adds that ice is continuing to build up on lines around Swift Current, Herbert, and Shaunavon, and periodic outages could continue over the next several days unless there's a break in the weather.
