The Town of Shaunavon has recently hired a new Bylaw Enforcement Officer.

Maureen Wilson replaced Rick Nicholson as the Bylaw Enforcement Officer on July 15.

Wilson has been a resident of Shaunavon for 11 years, and brings with her a multitude of experience including six years of law enforcement, five of which she served at the Shaunavon RCMP Detachment.

She is also an Emergency Medical Responder working on Shaunavon Ambulances and the oilfield, and is a member of the town's Volunteer Fire Department.

She said that's why the position is such a good fit for her. "Well it goes back to my experience from being an RCMP officer. I served Shaunavon for five years, so I have the experience and have done Bylaw Enforcement as part of my duties with that. So, it kind of fit right in to my experiences."

The Town's Bylaw Officer is tasked with ensuring the safety of, and providing education regarding residents and property through enforcement of municipal bylaws.

Wilson says that three priority areas for her are people crossing the center line when driving, parking on the wrong side of the road, and animals running at large.
