Now that winter is officially in the rearview mirror, it's time to take a look at the roads ahead -- and decide which ones are in the roughest shape.

CAA's annual Worst Roads Campaign is back for the tenth year, inviting residents from all across the province to submit what they think is the most dangerous road.

Director of corporate communications for CAA, Christine Niemczyk, explained that submissions can include streets or highways with potholes, crumbling pavement, cracks, disrepair, poor signage, congestion, or unsafe infrastructure.

"Saskatchewan is a landlocked province; we have about 250,000 kilometres of roads, and I've learned a lot through the campaign that we have more roads than any other province in Canada," she said. "We do share the results with those who are handling the budget. They probably know which ones might be on their list, but this is an opportunity to say, 'That road is still a safety concern ... road users in that community have voted, results indicate that is still a safety concern to them.'"

The campaign opened on Tuesday and will be accepting votes until the 29th with the top 10 roads being announced the following day.

New this year, CAA will award a $1,000 Shell gift card to one random eligible voter for some relief of the increasing gas prices, also on the last day of the month.

The insurance agency's advocacy initiative is open to all road users including motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and passengers. Individuals have one vote per road every 24 hours.

"I've checked our site and I see that the nominations and votes are coming in pretty strong," Niemczyk said.
