Residents of Weyburn were asked to shelter in place on March 11 while police carried out a significant operation in the 800 block of Fifth Street North. The alert came after authorities received information that Brandon Hendershot, a man wanted on multiple charges, was inside a residence in the area.
Hendershot had been sought by police for the past six months, with multiple public appeals issued during that time. Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified risks to public safety and immediately secured the area. A critical incident response was launched, involving patrol members, the Joint Tactical Support Team (JTST), and police negotiators from both the Weyburn and Estevan police services.
After approximately five hours of communication, Hendershot exited the residence and surrendered peacefully to police. He faces multiple charges, including five counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, two counts of invitation to sexual touching, and failure to appear in court. These charges originate from Nova Scotia and have been extended to Saskatchewan.
Hendershot is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Nova Scotia.
The WPS thanked local residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the operation and praised the officers from Weyburn and Estevan for their swift and professional response.
