A text message reported to Swift Current Rural RCMP earlier this month had the fraudster threatening the victim with a photo of a masked and armed individual.

According to a media release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, the victim received multiple text messages from a stranger, who accused the victim of criminal activity and demanded money from them.

The photo and threats followed, and the victim blocked the number without engaging with the scammer.

A similar, unrelated text message-based fraud was reported to Swift Current Rural RCMP back in May.

Officers are reminding the public to not reply to text message scams but to simply block the number immediately. Individuals should never send money or gift cards. However, victims should keep records of suspicious texts and contact the police.
