A cross-country trek for an important cause passed through Swift Current earlier this week.

James Steed and his father Gord made a stop at City Hall on Monday afternoon to meet with City Councilor George Bowditch during their Plaid for Dad Roadtrip. The road trip is aimed at raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

"My original idea was to do more of a tourist, sightseeing road trip," Gord Steed said. "That's been cut down, a lot of the sights we're seeing now are meeting with Mayor's and city officials, to promote cancer awareness, as that's been the primary emphasis on this trip."

The journey began on June 4th in Edmonton as Steed's climbed behind the wheel of their new cargo van decked out in plaid for dad decals.

"I think the fact that my father went through having prostate cancer is a driving force behind this trip," James Steed, the President of Steed Standard Transport said. "He was quite open about it with his family and friends about it. We're trying to strike the conversation about prostate cancer and change the stigma behind it."

The two family members added that the hospitality they've received has been great, while also noting the openness towards speaking about prostate cancer is a huge difference compared to Ontario.

They will wrap up their trip in Stratford, Ontario in a few day's, just in time for Plaid for Dad day which is on June 16th.
