After last week's announcement of funding restoration for the province's libraries, several programs and services are seeing their re-implementation for 2017.

One popular service in particular which is returning for this year is the use of eBooks and eAudioBooks.

The service accounts for approximately 15% of overall circulation in the region.

Over 36,000 eBooks were circulated in Chinook Regional Library in 2016. Swift Current patrons alone checked out approximately 17,000 eBooks in 2016.

Andrea McCrimmon, Manager of the Swift Current Branch Library shares the fate of the services before last week's announcement from Don Morgan - Minister of Education.

"People's access to eBooks and eAudioBooks was in doubt for a while because of the funding cuts. Because that was where we got that money to pay for this service for people," she said. "Now that the funding has been restored, we're very relieved that we'll be able to continue on giving people access to this really valuable resource."

Another service, the inter-library lending program has been restored as well.

There will still be one budget-related change - STC used to transport those books, but since the government is eliminating the bus company effective May 31st, 2017, the Ministry of Central Services has confirmed that Purolator courier will take over that service.
