Southwestern Saskatchewan's airwaves will be filled with local healthcare content over the next 35 hours to raise some money in support of the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.

The 14th annual Pharmasave Radiothon for Healthcare takes over Golden West Broadcasting's CKSW 570, CJSN 1490, Eagle 94.1, and Magic 97.1 at 6 a.m. this morning and runs until 5 p.m. today and the same hours again tomorrow.

Jim Dekowny, the executive director for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation, said they've done a lot of work ahead of their largest fundraiser of the year including mailouts and mail drops.

"We're anxious to get going and see where things lead to this year," he said.

"We always canvass the businesses around the southwest... We're lucky, we have a great following of businesses, people, and donors that give to us."

This year's goal for the 22-hour-long broadcast is set at $150,000. Funds raised during the event will be put towards purchasing a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC Line) and a blood assessment unit for the Cypress Regional Hospital. According to Dekowny, this is the first time they've used the radiothon to generate donations to buy more than one piece of equipment.

"Expanding things to two pieces this year and then maybe possibly looking outside the box for years to come," he said. "Maybe we do two, three, or four pieces."

"These two pieces go to the Swift Current regional hospital but the pieces allow us to keep people closer to home... Whether you're in Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Eastend, Leader, or Climax, you don't have to go to Regina, Moose Jaw, or Saskatoon, you can come to Swift Current."

The radiothon will include five live entertainment performances; Rri Olson, Jesse Gensorek, Jessica Rae, Denise Wall, and Dillon Currie.

And for donors, there will be matching hours and a pile of prizes.

"It will be a really cool couple of days, there are lots of things out there that could entice you to maybe give to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation," he said. "I hope everyone tunes in."
