Last week the local museum celebrated a cherished member’s 71 years with the organization.

Ranger the taxidermized bison had a birthday party at the Swift Current Museum, bringing folks in the community together for an afternoon of treats, prizes, and learning.

The day consisted of a bison stew and bannock catered by the Living Sky Casino, a colouring contest featuring 25 little artists, and a raffle for a t-shirt on site.

All members of Ranger’s Kids Club, approximately 230 kids, were automatically entered into a draw for the chance to win their very own plush bison.

Melissa Shaw, the museum director, said the day was a success, with about 75 people in attendance for lunch and a tour.

“We had a few kids and families sign up for the club,” she said. “Now they’ll start getting monthly correspondence about what’s going on at the museum, and on their birthday month they’ll get to come in and get a present from Ranger himself.”

Anyone that wants to join the club can call the museum or stop by in person to sign up, free of charge.

Shaw added that the purpose of membership is for kids to stay in the know of all the fun activities, like Ranger’s birthday bash, happening at the museum.
