Fans of Elvis Presley are in luck this summer—Saskatchewan tribute artist Rory Allen is coming to rock the stage in Swift Current and raise funds for a local initiative.

The concert is set for the afternoon of June 17 at Ecole Centennial School, featuring two sets of tunes and a raffle table.

Eunice Morck, treasurer of the Silver Wings Access Van Inc. (SWAVI) Committee, said this is one of many events being held to purchase a mobility van for residents at The Meadows.

“Swift Current access transit has vans that will take people in wheelchairs to appointments or events, but they're very busy and it's very hard to book them,” Morck explained. “Also, depending on the style and size of a person's wheelchair, they can't even get on the buses. And The Meadows itself, it's not in their mandate to ever buy a van for the residents, so it has to be an independent group that's raising the funds and getting a van.”

Tickets for the tribute concert can be purchased at Pharmasave, or by a SWAVI member. The show is scheduled for a Saturday afternoon so that Meadows residents can attend as well.

As of Friday, $16,291 has been raised for the van of the total $140,148 needed.
