Broncos host unbeaten Rebels tonight, visit Pats Saturday

The Swift Current Broncos look to keep a four-game winning streak alive when they face the unbeaten Red Deer Rebels tonight at InnovationPlex. 

The Rebels have won 13 games in a row, setting the new modern-day WHL record for the longest winning streak to start a season. The Broncos previously held that record when they won the first 12 games of their Memorial Cup winning season in 1988-89. 

The Broncos are coming off a 5-4 overtime win over the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday night. 

You can catch tonight’s game on the Eagle 94.1 with Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starting at 6:30 and the face-off at 7:00pm. The Broncos head to Regina on Saturday night to take on the Pats.

Riley Fiddler-Schultz had two goals as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Victoria Royals in the lone WHL game last night. Tonight's schedule includes Moose Jaw visiting Prince Albert, Saskatoon hosting Everett, Medicine Hat travelling to Calgary, Lethbridge welcoming Vancouver and Edmonton entertaining Victoria.

Another busy weekend for minor hockey

The Home Hardware U18 Legionnaires are back home this weekend with a pair of games against the Yorkton Maulers. face-off is at 8:00pm Saturday and 1:45pm Sunday afternoon at InnovationPlex.

The Innovation Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats host the Saskatoon Stars for two games at S3 Arenas at 7:45pm Saturday and 1:15pm Sunday.

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos host Estevan tonight and the Lumsden-Bethune Lions on Sunday. The Pure Chem U15 Broncos had their game in Regina postponed last night but return home Saturday against Saskatoon and Sunday against Estevan. The SWT U13 Broncos visit the Regina Buffaloes on Saturday and then host the Regina Blues on Sunday.

The Full Line Ag U18 AA Wildcats host the Northwest Sharks in their only game of the weekend tomorrow, the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats host the Warman Wildcats tomorrow and Sunday, and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats host the Northeast Aces tomorrow and the Warman Wildcats on Sunday.

Connor scores OT winner for Jets, Petey notches five points for Canucks

Kyle Connor scored 1:45 into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets beat Montreal 3-2 in Thursday's NHL action. Meanwhile, Elias Pettersson had a five-point night and Andrei Kuzmenko had a hat trick as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Ducks 8-5. In other action, Vegas beat Ottawa 5-4, Nashville beat Calgary 4-1 and the Devils edged the Oilers 4-3.

Two games are on the schedule today with Colorado taking on Columbus in Tampere, Finland and Carolina hosting Buffalo.

Verlander, Astros one win away from World Series

After 16 years, Justin Verlander finally picked up his first World Series win as the Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 to take a three-games-to-two edge in the fall classic. 

Verlander was winless in eight previous World Series starts. He is one of five Astros still on the team from their first title in 2017, and they can claim another with a win in game six Saturday in Houston.

Eagles stay unbeaten after win over Texans in NFL Thursday nighter

A Philadelphia team did prevail over one from Houston last night as the Eagles beat the Texans 29-17 to remain the only unbeaten team in the NFL with an 8-0 record. 

It’s the seventh time that teams from the same opposing cities have played in the World Series and an NFL game on the same day.

Canada still rolling along at Pan Continental Championship

Brad Gushue beat Australia 11-5 and New Zealand 10-5 in yesterday’s draws at the Pan-Continental Curling Championship in Calgary and will wrap up the round robin against Chinese Taipei today. 

On the women’s side, Kerri Einarson’s team dropped their first game with an 8-6 loss to the US. They’ll face Japan and Korea today. The playoffs start on Saturday.
