Broncos hosting Royals for first time in five years tonight

The Swift Current Broncos will get a rare visit from the Victoria Royals in WHL action tonight.

The last time the Royals played at InnovationPlex was on November 29, 2017. Glenn Gawdin got the overtime winner as the Broncos beat the Royals 3-2 en route to winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup that season.

The Broncos are coming off a 5-4 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday, and each of their last six games have been decided by one goal. The Royals started their Central Division swing with a 6-2 loss in Red Deer on Wednesday.

Tonight’s game is on the Eagle 94-1 with Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm and the face-off at 7:00pm.

Vancouver edged Edmonton 2-1 in the lone WHL game on Thursday night. Tonight's eight-game schedule includes Moose Jaw hosting Everett, Medicine Hat welcoming Saskatoon, Calgary visiting Edmonton and Red Deer entertaining Vancouver.

Legionnaires hosting Prince Albert while Wildcats head to PA

The Home Hardware Legionnaires take a six-game winning streak to a pair of home games against the Prince Albert Mintos this weekend. Face-off is at 8:00pm tomorrow and 1:45pm on Sunday, with Sunday’s game on B&A Petroleum Local Sports Live on the Eagle.

The Innovation Credit Union Wildcats have one game this weekend, and that's tomorrow afternoon in Prince Albert.

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos visit Estevan and Weyburn this weekend, the Full Line Ag U18 Wildcats have road games in the Battlefords and Saskatoon, the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats host Saskatoon tomorrow and Sunday, and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats welcome the Lumsden Bethune Lynx this weekend.

Western Showdown kicks off at Curling Club

The IG Wealth Management Western Showdown gets underway at the Swift Current Curling Club this morning with some big matchups.

Sweden’s Niklas Edin faces Korea’s Yeongseok Jeong while former Saskatchewan champion Steve Laycock, whose team features local curlers Shaun Meachem and Chris Haichert, faces Winnipeg’s Braden Calvert.

John Epping takes on Dallan Muyres, Colton Flasch battles Scott Manners and Kevin Koe takes on Jordan Peters in other opening day matches.

The first draw is at 9:00am this morning and action continues through Monday.

Colts wrap up football season on Saturday

The High School football season wraps up in the southwest tomorrow with the Comp High School Colts hosting the Vanier Vikings in the 5A Rural 12-man tier 2 final. The game is at 1:00pm at the Comp and will also be live on the Eagle with B&A Petroleum Local Sports Live.

Four-point night for McDavid lifts Oilers over Blackhawks

Leon Draisaitl scored the game winner with 38 seconds left in regulation as the Edmonton Oilers edged the Chicago Blackhawks 6-5. Connor McDavid scored his 12th career hat trick and added an assist for the Oilers.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks finally won their first game of the season as they hung on for a 5-4 victory over the Seattle Kraken. Coach Bruce Boudreau collected his 600th career NHL victory as the Canucks snapped a seven-game losing streak to start the season.

In other NHL action, Josh Anderson scored the winning goal with under four minutes left as Montreal beat Buffalo 3-2, former Bronco Adam Lowry had a goal and a helper in Winnipeg’s 6-4 win over LA, the Wild beat the Senators 4-2 and the Sharks edged the Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime.

Two Canadian NHL teams are in action tonight. The Canucks host the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Winnipeg visits Arizona at the Coyotes’ new home at Mullett Arena.

World Series opens tonight

The World Series gets underway tonight with the Houston Astros hosting the Philadelphia Phillies. 

The Astros are making their fourth trip to the Fall Classic in the last six season, winning once in 2017. The Phillies, meanwhile, last won the championship in 2008.
