The 35th annual Saskatchewan Country Music  Association Awards are coming up and among the nominees is a musical aficionado with southwest roots.

Aspen Beveridge, accomplished owner and operator of Skull Creek Studios in Watrous, is originally from Maple Creek.

"I was nominated for songwriter of the year and I've been nominated for record producer of the year for two different songs and I was also nominated for recording studio of the year," said Beveridge.

The event will occur from June 20 -22 in Lloydminster at the Vic Juba Community Theatre, with the awards ceremony on June 22.

"I've been pursuing music and interested in music for as long as I can remember," he noted. "It's always been a big part of my family as well, my siblings all play music and are songwriters and singers so it's been a very organic path."

Beveridge has been a part of the band, League of Wolves, for many years with friends he grew up with in the southwest, including Dillion Currie who now resides in Swift Current.

League of Wolves moved to Saskatoon together before signing a record deal with Inside Pocket and Warner Music Canada then touring in Toronto, the group has settled down since Covid.

"My only advice would be to just persevere, work really hard, and not give up," added Beveridge when asked what advice he might give to someone interested in pursuing a similar career.

Tickets to the Saskatchewan Country Music Awards are available at scma.sk.ca and earlybird prices will only be available until April 30.
