The bright lights will be shining again this weekend as students at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School take to the stage for this year's production of The Outsiders

The production, being directed by Scott Derksen, Shaun Spence, and Nancy Bridal with technical direction by Riley Sharp is set in the 1960s and follows the story of a greaser named Ponyboy and his gang.

Based off the book by S. E. Hinton, Slayte Prefontaine who plays Soda Pop in the production provides some insight into what the audience can expect from the show.

"Lot's of suspenseful moments, lots of tension. There are some good laughs here and there to, it's a pretty funny show sometimes but it deals with a lot of serious subject matter. It's a pretty faithful adaptation of the book and movie so if your a fan of that it will be good to see a live performance of it."

Prefontaine adds that they have been rehearsing and working on the show since October. They began rehearsing Monday through Wednesday and then added in Sunday rehearsals at the beginning of November.

Prefontaine expresses what it means to be able to perform again this year.

"It means a lot I think to most of us because we missed out on some performances when COVID happened. The directors did an amazing job last year too we did a radio play so it wasn't the same because we couldn't have that live audience there but it was still something to do. So it's going to mean a lot for us to get back on stage. For lots of us, it's something we look forward to every year."

In regards to putting this particular production on this year, Bridal says that they had the kids to do it this year as it is a male-heavy script and they wanted to challenge the kids with some great character acting. Bridal herself says they are very excited to be able to have a live audience and be able to bring the production to the family and friends of the actors.

There is limited seating for the production as they are only seating 120 patrons in a space for 700.

Those interested in purchasing tickets for a performance can do so by contacting the Swift Current Comprehensive High School at 306-773-2801 and asking to be forwarded to Nancy Bridal.

Performances begin tonight at 7 pm and run Friday and Saturday evening also at 7 pm with an additional matinee at 2 pm on Saturday.
