Swift Current’s Logan Fritzke and Team Sask have struck gold at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Facing off in the gold medal game last night against Team Manitoba, Saskatchewan rode another strong pitching performance to beat the host team 3-1 in front of a packed house of over 7200 fans.

Logan Hoffman tossed six innings of one-run ball, and Tyler McWillie entered in the seventh and final inning to pitch a shut out for the save.

An impressive win for Team Saskatchewan who was clearly the underdog – at least on paper.

Manitoba was the top overall team headed into the playoffs after going 5-0 in round robin play, while scoring 34 runs and only surrendering nine. Saskatchewan headed into playoffs 3-3 being outscored 21-15.

As for the Swift Current representative on Team Sask, Fritzke closed the tournament going 1-for-2 with a single and a walk in two at-bats.

The Midget ‘AAA’ 57’s infielder finishes the Canada Summer Games going 7-for-21 (.333), with one RBI, and four walks.
