A big boost for three southwest Saskatchewan airports last Wednesday as the provincial government confirmed it will be investing nearly $100,000 between the three facilities.

The investments are being made as part of the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) Program to enhance infrastructure to community and regionally-owned airports.

The RM of Frontier's airport will recieved the largest portion of the funds ($49,350), followed by the Shaunavon Airport ($33,100) and rounding out the list is the Swift Current Airport ($15,000).

"The CAP grant has been very benficial for our airport," Barb Webber, Administaror for the RM of Frontier said. "It is a surprise (to get the funding), because we had applied two years ago and they told us no, so to get it this year we were surprised.

Frontier's approved grant, which ranks as third largest amount handed out to an airport in the province, will allow for the airport apron to be recapped.

"Let's put it this way, if we didn't get the money (from this grant), we wouldn't be doing it," Webber added Friday afternoon. "It's not in really great shape, so to get it done, is a bonus.

"They had given us a heads up ahead of time (that we'd been approved) so that we could get ahold of our contractor. Of course because our contractor is paving and this is their busy time of year, now he won't be coming to do that until this fall."

Shaunavon's grant approval will allow for runway repairs, with Swift Current using their money towards asphalt maintenance.
