Today we celebrate International Dance Day and as part of this celebration once again dance students from across the country have joined together to perform a choreographed combination.

Melissa Wallace, Event Coordinator for the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association (CDTA) provides details on the event.

"The combination was choreographed by teachers from Nova Scotia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan and it was filmed and distributed to all of our CDTA members across Canada as well as dance teachers that belong to different dance organizations."

International Dance Day has been around for a number of years and this year the CDTA is also celebrating the fact that they are becoming a fully national body encompassing all provinces and territories across Canada.

Wallace adds that they had so much fun and success showcasing #SKdancestogether in October, that this was a great way to celebrate dance in Canada and shine an extra light on the new CDTA National by celebrating international dance day with a similar idea.

In addition, Wallace says that things are feeling better in the world of dance right now rather than over the past few springs because this is the first March/April where dancers in every province have the opportunity to go live on stage and perform at competitions and recitals.

Dance students from across the country will be performing the combination on social media today as well as in-person in Swift Current this afternoon around 4 pm at Market Square as  Wallace explains.

"Where dancers can perform again coming together from a few different studios and perform outside and again showcasing how awesome dance is and the fun of different studios and different dancers of all ages learning the same combination.":

The Swift Current Festival of Friends Dance competition also begins today and students will be performing the dance combination during adjudication as well.

Wallace says that everything will be posted on Instagram and Facebook and you can follow #CDTAdancesacrossCanada to see postings from every studio taking part in the event.

In a press release from the CDTA, they say that "One goal of #CDTAdancesacrossCanada is to bring students of all ages, cultures, and dance styles “together” to show our unified passion within the community of dance."
