A non-profit that supports Canadian amputees is gearing up for its annual Key Tag Service.

The War Amps provides all amputees, including children, with financial assistance for artificial limbs and resources that address all aspects of amputation – funded solely by donations.

Public awareness specialist with the War Amps, Bob Maguire, said each tag mailed out has its own coded number specific to the address it's mailed to.

“The War Amps Key Tags started over 75 years ago when we wanted to provide employment to our war amputee veterans,” he said. "If anyone loses their keys, all the finder has to do is call the number on the back or throw them in any red Canada Post mailbox and the War Amps will return them free of charge.”

Since the service’s inception, more than 1.5 million sets of lost keys have been returned to their owners. Key tags are produced in Canada at The War Amps workshop, employing people with disabilities.

While it’s a free resource, the charity accepts donations online, over the phone, and via paper form in the mail.

Key tags will be arriving in Swift Current and surrounding area next month, but anyone that doesn’t receive one and would like to can do so here.

"Thank you for everyone that's supporting the warrants year after year, we really do appreciate it," Maguire added.
