A 15-year-old female from Lethbridge has been charged and arrested by Lethbridge Police Service and charged with uttering threats after an incident earlier this week in Maple Creek.

The incident began around 7:25 am on October 4th when Maple Creek RCMP began investigating a social media post that contained threatening information. The initial investigation indicated that there was a possibility that it was posted in the Maple Creek area.

According to a Town of Maple Creek social media page, as a precaution, Maple Creek RCMP informed local schools, who decided to enact their hold-and-secure protocols. Police officers maintained a presence at the schools throughout the day while the details of the social media post were investigated further.

Later that day RCMP determined that the social media account used to post the message had been hacked and the original post was made from outside Saskatchewan. The hold-and-secure protocols were then lifted.

As per the Youth Criminal Justice Act the charged youth cannot be identified.
