Southwest Culture Days fosters family-friendly festivities & connection
Communities across southwestern Saskatchewan are celebrating Culture Days with a series of events, activities for the whole family, and opportunities to explore the diversity of many different cultures. The Village of Hazlet is set to host Hazlet Culture Days this Thursday in conjunction with the final farmers market of the year, taking place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The same day, residents of Hazlet and the area can enjoy a free lasagna supper at the Hazlet Cafe, a customer appreciation event, a history book celebration, and baking classes for kids. Shaunavon will be celebrating Culture Days with a Multicultural Market this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre. The Multicultural Market will include live entertainment, cultural displays, activities for kids, vendors, and a chance to share food, art, and stories. Culture Days kicked off in Swift Current this past Saturday with CultureFest and is set to continue until October 12. The Truth and Reconciliation Committee will host an Orange Shirt Day event at Market Square this Friday, while the Indigenous Connections Tradeshow takes place at the Living Sky Casino from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, and the annual Ranchman's & Junior Stockman's event is set for Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Town of Maple Creek is throwing a Community Feast from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the Jasper Cultural & Historical Centre. In addition to a free workshop this Saturday, and a Metis story presentation from Janet Milburn on October 10. On October 1, a Culture Days celebration will take place at the Gull Lake Museum from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a barbecue, live music, and a final chance to tour the museum this year. Eastend Culture Days also began last Saturday, and over half a dozen more Culture Days events are coming up until October 11, including a concert featuring Rachael Kilgour, a discussion detailing the history of Metis jigging, a kids' show, a sourdough workshop, and more.
