A three point night from Riley Dekowny and 23 saves from Justin Dueck led the Kabos Bantam ‘AA’ Broncos to a league and provincial title Saturday night.

Playing game two of their best of three series Saturday in Warman, the Broncos shut-out the Sask Valley Vipers 4-0 to sweep the series 2-0.

With neither team able to get on the board in the first half of the opening period, the first power-play opportunity of the game presented itself for Swift Current and they took advantage.

Bronco’s forward Keagon Little opened the scoring for the visitors just under a minute into their power-play for a 1-0 lead.

Despite outshooting the Vipers 16-6 in the first period, the Broncos were only able to generate 1-0 lead into the intermission.

In the second period, it was more of the same.

Swift Current continued to outshoot the Vipers, but once again, the Broncos were only able to get one goal past Sask Valley goalie Matt Hennessey.

Hennessey stopped 16 of the 17 shots Swift Current fired his way, while Dueck held down the fort in Swift Current's zone, stopping each of the seven shots he saw.

The only goal of the midd frame came with 4:59 left to play as Dekowny scored his first of two goals on the night, extending Swift Current’s lead to 2-0 heading inot the second intermission.

In the third, the Broncos continued to close in on the Saskatchewan Bantam ‘AA’ League championship and a provincial title and all but secured the crown with just under three minutes to go.

Dekowny picked up his second point of the night when he set up Bronco’s leading scorer Reed Jacobson for his 9th goal of the playoffs, giving Swift Current a 3-0 lead with 2:58 left to play.

The Broncos then put any thought of a Sask Valley comeback to bed when Dekowny put home his second goal of a the game with only 34 seconds remaining.

For Swift Current, they had already secured their spot at the 2017 Western Bantam ‘AAA’ tournament in Warman with Sask Valley being the host team, but have now earned their berth at the tournament as well.

The Kabos Broncos are the second Swift Current team to win a league championship this season, with the SWT Pee Wee ‘AA’ Broncos having won their league title last week.

Western’s will begin on March 30th from Warman.

Swift Current’s first game of the tournament will be against the Alberta provincial champion at 12:00pm on March 30th.
