It was a banner day for the Swift Current Comp. Wrestling team on Thursday.

With SHSAA Executive Director Lyle McKellar on hand, he awarded the SCCHS's wrestling team the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award.

The sportsmanship banner was the third one handed out to a southwest school over the 2016-17 school year.

The Shaunavon Shadows boys volleyball team was the recipient of the 4A Sportsmanship award, while the Vanguard Valkyres boys volleyball team won the 1A award.

Not only were the Colts/Ardens wrestlers noticed as the most sportsmanlike group, they also had strong results on the mat as well.

Competing at provincials in Warman on March 17 and 18, Austin Shopa won a gold medal, Aleah Nickel claimed a silver medal, and Brock Doerksen came home with a bronze medal.

The sportsmanship banner is the second for the SCCHS's wrestling team, and the school's 6th overall.

The SHSAA started presenting the awards in 1996.
