The unveiling of the 2017 City of Swift Current Municipal Budget will be the talk of tonight's City Council meeting.

This will be the earliest the budget has been released in the city's history. First-term Mayor, Denis Perrault, says he would like to see this trend continue.

"I think it makes sense to have a budget delivered before you actually start your calendar year. In the past, budgets were delivered in April and that's 3 or 4 months into your calendar year - to me that seems contrary as an accountant," he said.

Perrault shares that city administration overcame the challenge in preparing the budget earlier than the previous norm.

"We literally have an infinite amount of requests and an extremely finite amount of resources. It's a challenge, but I give administration a lot of credit. On top of everything else that was going on, they strived to get the budget out early," he said.

The budget unveiling will also be a major topic of discussion at Mayor Perrault's 2017 State of the City address tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, tonight's budget-filled meeting gets underway at 6:30 in Council Chambers.
