The Swift Current City RCMP say they are continuing to hear about a lot of fraudulent phone calls where people pretend to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.

In a release from the police, they say the caller says they're from the CRA and that the intended victim is told they owe taxes.

The caller often uses threatening or aggressive language to try to coax the person into paying a debt they don't actually owe.

RCMP say that sometimes threats of criminal charges, jail time, or deportation occur.

On top of demanding payment, the callers have also asked for personal information like social insurance numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or passport numbers.

The RCMP want to hear about any lost money or compromised personal information, but don't need to hear about it if the person recognizes it as a scam and doesn't give anything up. In that case, there's a Phone Busters Fraud Line: 1-888-495-8501.
