On Monday afternoon the Chinook School Division reviewed their strategic plan for the next three years aligning it with the rest of the province.

The plan runs from September, 2017 to June, 2020 and focus on reading, writing, and math along with improving graduation rates, and engaging 21st-century learners.

Interim Director of Education Kyle McIntyre says the goals inside of the Education Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP) may be harder to reach now with last year's budget cuts.

"Is it going to impact our abilities to meet that goal? We sure hope it doesn't, but chances are it may have some impact," he said.

McIntyre noted although not many divisions reduced teachers in classrooms with budget cuts, they did reduce central supports who worked with teachers toward the ESSP.

By June, 2020 Chinook is aiming to have 90 per cent of students meeting or exceeding expectations in reading, writing, and math.

The division is also targeting a three-year 90-per-cent graduation rate.

"We're getting better at doing our strategic planning," he said. "We know that we are reviewing our annual activities anyways so the long-term goal doesn't change, but your annual activities are maybe going to be different (each year) as you work towards that goal."
