With the kids back in school, the RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down to 25 kilometers per hour in Shaunavon school zones.

Sergeant Dan Archibald with the Shaunavon RCMP Detachment said "Speeding in a school zone is quite pricey. Starting fine is $170.00, and it increases every kilometer an hour by $4 up to a limited to 30 kilometers over. After that it's doubled again. So, it's not worth it to speed in the school zones."

Drivers should refrain from parking on cross walks in front of schools, and should come to a complete stop five meters from a school bus when the stop arm is extended. Fines for passing a school bus with its stop arm extended are $360.00 plus four demerits.
