Eston's Bill Boyd was fined $28,000 today for illegal work on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River.

The former Kindersley MLA and provincial economy minister pleaded guilty to this charge back in February. He was previously fined $7,000 for another charge relating to the same landscaping work.

The most recent sentence is regarding a charge under the Environmental Management and Protection Act.

The Water Security Agency said that conservation officers for the ministry of environment received calls about what seemed to be illegal work during June and July at the site south of Eston.

Boyd was also ordered in Kindersley Provinical Court to remediate the damage to the protected grasslands as well as the shoreline.
