The Swift Current Salvation Army received a boost funding-wise this morning from a Swift Current business.

B&A Petroleum presented the charitable organization with a $1,600 cheque to help with its food bank.

Darryl Meyer, the owner of B&A Petroleum, said the donation idea was brought to him and he thought it was a great chance to help out the community.

"Because of COVID Petro-Canada wanted to do something and do it through there bulk fuel distributors," he said. "They told me to send in who I thought might benefit from having some help during this time and we just thought the food banks were probably the best way to go."

Swift Current Salvation Army Lieutenant Bill Mailman was on hand to receive the cheque from Meyer and said he's thankful for the donation.

"This is a really great donation, it's going to help a lot in the city of Swift Current and the community," he said.

Mailman alluded to the Swift Current foodbank doing okay at the moment but said donations are always graciously accepted.

The fuel company in total will be donating $6,000 to food banks in Swift Current, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Assiniboia, and Gravelbourg.
