An event to promote local charities occurred in Swift Current yesterday, bringing together local charaties charities.

The second-annual Charity Expo was designed to show the community all of the organizations in Swift Current giving back.Swift Current Mall played host, showcasing that Swift Current is home to charities that some residents may not know are in town.

The organization that created the event is called SwiftLink, which is also involved with charity work in foreign locations.Cindy Gross, secretary of SwiftLink, said that doing charity work itself, the organization saw the desire for a promotional event.

"We saw a need for promotion of a lot of different charities because there are so many good humanitarian things being done by people in Swift Current, so the idea of putting on a charity expo came to be."

Speaking on the other reasons that an event like the Charity Expo is a valuable resource, Gross said that fundraising and marketing are hard to do for a charity.

"Different charities that I've been involved in, you're focused on fundraising quite a bit, and trying to fundraise for your cause, and sometimes it's hard to have the manpower to do the marketing and the promotion piece, so I think this day is a great way for many charities to benefit from one promotional event."

Gross said that a third Charity Expo was a possibility.
