A Swift Current dentist has been chosen as the speaker for the Saskatchewan Prayer Breakfast in April.

A six-member committee selected Dr. Lawrence Reimer as the 48th speaker in the event's history.

Reimer was caught off guard by the selection, especially when he received a phone call from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor asking if he would be the speaker.

"I was 100 per cent surprised," he said. "Over the 48 years they have been doing it, there have been some pretty high-profile speakers. It's a real honour to be able to join the other 47 that have had the opportunity to do the same."

Even though Reimer has a few months to prepare his speech, he already has an outlined idea of what it should look like.

"It's basically going to be about my story and where I started out, some of the hurdles I overcame or had to overcome to get where I am today," he explained. "I hope to keep it on a really personal level and inspirational level, so it appeals to people of all faith."

Reimer has made over 15 trips to help provide dental health education and care in developing countries, something he will also look to incorporate into his speech in front of several hundred people.
