The Swift Current Broncos inducted a 50-year volunteer into their hall of fame at Saturday night's home opener against Kootenay.

Dennis Loeppky, who passed away in April of this year, served as a volunteer all around the community, and in several positions at Broncos games from 1967-2017.

His wife, Barb, and their family was in attendance at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex on Saturday to accept the bronze plaque that will hang in the hall of fame.

"It gives you quite a feeling actually, to have that done," said Rob Myers, a nephew of Dennis', who worked alongside the inductee in the penalty box for over 20 years. "He was a pretty great guy, and he was quite a person in the community - all of the different levels he was involved in. It's a pretty good honour for him, and I'm glad that he got honoured in that way."

Loeppky's induction marks the first volunteer to be inducted into the Broncos' hall of fame - a testament to the memorable moments that those who spent time with him have.

"We had a lot of laughs over that length of time in the penalty box - lots of stories," Myers said. "I was fortunate enough to be able to call him my uncle... he's going to be well missed."

Loeppky's plaque will be installed in the hall of fame later this month, marking a fitting touch to a long-time prominent volunteer in Swift Current.
