The Village of Mankota which is 150km south of Swift Current celebrated Canada's 150th birthday on Saturday with a parade.

Niel Deringer, a member of the Mankota Lions Club and one of the organizer's talked about how the day went.

"Everybody just had a good time, everybody just knew everybody," Deringer said. "We had a lot of people that came back to Mankota just to celebrate the 150th; it was just a good down home day, everyone was just in good humour."

Around 60 people participated in the parade with over 100 people watching from the streets.

After the parade, everyone went down to the local hall for something to eat, and chat with people they haven't talked to in years.

Deringer said that some of the highlights of the day were to see the 104-year-old Dorthy Schiml standing on a float waving and throwing candy to the kids below, the classic cars owned by the locals, and some of the really old tractors that you rarely get to see anymore.

Deringer added that it was a fun time for both young and old residents of Mankota and that it was warm-up for next year when Mankota celebrates its 90th birthday.
