With the recent cool down in temperatures combined with some rain fall, several fire bans in southwestern Saskatchewan have been lifted.

Earlier this week, it was announced that six R.M.s and one regional park close to the City of Swift Current lifted their fire bans.

Included on the list are the R.M.s of Swift Current #137, Excelsior #166, Webb #138, Lac Pelletier #107, Riverside #168, Coulee #136, as well as the Lac Pelletier Regional Park.

"We've been lucky in the city where between the trees and the grasses it's still pretty green, so we haven't had to put a fire ban on," Pete L'Heureux, Deputy Fire Chief with the City of Swift Current Fire Department said. "Some of the other jurisdictions and R.M.s have had to and that certainly reduces peoples comfort levels and the ability to enjoy stuff, so I'm happy to see them go."

He also said to exercise caution when around open flames because the risk of a fire spreading is still relatively high.

Although some bans have been lifted, the Ministry of Environment's ban that was placed into effect on August 1 remains in place for all provincial crown land and provincial parks and recreation sites in southwest Saskatchewan.
