An outbreak that closed the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre is now under control.

Visitation was temporarily restricted at the facility, but visitors are now welcomed.

While this may be the case, Dr. David Torr, a consulting medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, said that infection control measures need to be taken if going to the building.

"Things like washing their hands, and definitely do not visit if you are sick, especially respiratory or any other illness so that no new infection is brought in to the facility."

He said that the outbreak is a sign of the times.

"We've had a few outbreaks of influenza already in the province, and we've also had individuals who have already been admitted into intensive care in the province, so we do have to be careful, and we really encourage folks to get their influenza shots."

The flu shot takes around two weeks to activate.

He said that those who haven't taken the shot should be alright to enter the facility, provided they take the right precautions.
