The Swift Current Airport will be holding an emergency response exercise on Wednesday.

The emergency response exercise is part of a federal requirement to conduct a full-scale testing of the airport's Emergency Response Plan.

The exercise will include the RCMP, the Swift Current Fire Department, Swift Current EMS, the Department of National Defense, and the RM 137 Fire Department.

Todd Schultz, the aiport superintendent, said this is an exercise they perform every four years.

"During the exercise, members of the public may notice some out-of-the-ordinary events, such as fire, smoke, and a large number of emergency response vehicles and individuals,” said Schultz. “We want to make sure those who do notice such things are not alarmed, and that this is simply a planned exercise."

Schultz added that the purpose is to ensure that everyone is prepared if a real emergency takes place at the airport.
