It was a bit of an unusual start to the morning for a Swift Current family Tuesday.

Around 7 a.m. the Shepherd family was getting ready for work and school when they noticed smoke coming from one of their vehicles.

Kim and Will both went rushing outside to unplug the car's block heater, but by then the smoke had escalated.

"I quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran outside, but then very quickly saw this wasn't a fire extinguisher kind of thing," Will explained. "We called 9-1-1, by then the whole front end of the car was engulfed in flames.

"At that point, you start wondering, 'how big is it going to get?' I know they don't explode like they do in movies, but is the gas going to catch fire or is your house going to catch fire since it's sitting in the driveway?"

Shortly after the Swift Current Fire Department arrived, and were able to extinguish the fire, citing the cause was probably the block heater.

Currently the Shepherds are waiting on an SGI adjuster to look at what's left of their 2006 Pontiac Vibe.
