Summertime water pressure should be improving for residents in the South Hill neighbourhood in Swift Current in the near future.

At last night's council meeting, the lowest bid of $140,500.88 by Knudsen Excavating of Swift Current was approved, and upgrades will be finalized in May.

Pump capacity at the South Hill Pump Station will be increased, and 350 metres of 300 milimetre water pipe from the pump station to the South Pressure Zone on Hayes Drive will be installed.

The City says its received word from residents in the neighbourhood in recent years during summer months, and an analysis was done in 2016 by AECOM, where they recommended the water pipe installation and increase in capacity.

Mitch Minkin, general manager of infrastructure and operations with Swift Current, said they'd be starting the project right away.

The project was budgeted at $100,000 in the 2017 Capital Water Budget, but the extra $40,000 has come from other projects in the Water/Waste Water Capital Budgets.
