The month of October was Agriculture Month in Saskatchewan and this year’s theme was our food has a story.

A new event for this year “The Food Story” in Moose Jaw focused on linking producers and consumers.

Clinton Monchuk – the Executive Director of Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan says it the event sparked some great questions.

"Especially around things like the food that we consume and the nutritional values of them and how we actually get closer to the farms in terms of actually consuming their food," he said. "I made the comment that we see it a lot when you go to the grocery store the amount of packing and processing of foods and really as soon as you get away from that raw product the nutritional value changes."

Monchuk notes that the farther you get from the raw product to say processed food the higher the cost.

He notes the average cost of food for a family is about $243 per week here in Saskatchewan.
