Two southwest car clubs have joined forces to make Saskatchewan's Biggest Mobile Hotwheels Track ...probably.

That's the official name of the modified valve cover racing track, which has been customized to feature 12 lanes of Hot Wheels race tracks.

The project is the result of the Rogue Cruisers partnering with the Excellerators from Shaunavon. The trailer is the property of the Excellerators, which were looking to find additional uses for it.

That's when Dustin Vipond, a co-founder of the Rogue Cruisers, had the idea to set up the province's biggest mobile Hot Wheels track, or at least what he reckons could be the biggest.

"I haven't actually researched that," admitted Vipond. "So we put '...probably' on there."

The track uses gravity to run the cars, which range from model dragster, track specific cars, and everything else that people can fit into the lanes. The track's 12 lanes reach a combined total of 400 feet of track. Kids are able to load up six cars per side and can use a special launch system to release them all at once. The trailer itself is 32 feet long and folds up for travel.

So far, the track has been super popular. At the event Vipond has brought it to, hundreds of kids have lined up to race cars down against their friends. During Picnic in the Park, there was no time for Vipond to wander away as the kids just kept lining up for their turn at the track.

"The uptake has been amazing," said Vipond. "Everybody wants a piece of the pie it seems."

The City of Swift Current took notice of how popular the track was and invited Vipond to bring it out to the Coin Carnival later this year.

The track is completely free for kids to use. Vipond make it a point to keep everything free when possible, in order to ensure as many people can join in on the fun as want to. The next time the track will be available to play with will be on June 8th, down in Cadillac for the upcoming 'Chrome in Cadillac' car show. Hot Wheels racing will be available until later when valve cover racing will take over the trailer once again.

"Valve cover racing is something that's happened since the 60s and 70s," described Vipond. "Basically, you take any valve cover off an automobile engine, put some rollerblade or roller skate wheels on it."

Anyone who comes out to the event is invited to bring their own Hot Wheels to race or to prepare their own valve cover racer for a chance to take home a trophy.
