The Swift Current Broncos fired 26 shots toward the Medicine Hat Tigers net Saturday night, but couldn’t solve Beckett Langkow in a 3-0 loss in their pre-season finale.

A scoreless first period had the Broncos behind 14-6 on the shot clock as the Tigers had a pair of power plays. Joey Rocha stood tall in net for Swift Current, keeping them on even terms through 20 minutes of play.

Medicine Hat’s Josh Van Mulligen opened the scoring 2:02 into the second period, taking a pass in the high slot and beating Rocha under the blocker. That was the only goal of the second period despite a breakaway for Clarke Caswell, and the Broncos outshooting the Tigers 12-10.

After Swift Current couldn’t connect on a power play in the opening minute of the third period, the Tigers received back-to-back power plays and then scored during a delayed penalty after the second had expired, extending their lead to 2-0.

The Broncos fired eight more shots toward Langkow in the third period, including a breakaway by Mathew Ward, but couldn’t find the back of the net, dropping the 3-0 game.

The Broncos now look to next Friday when they open the 2022-23 regular season against the Calgary Hitmen at the InnovationPlex.
